It will last a long time though and a fun process especially if you need to make your own custom colors from dye. If you can deal with these things than by all means here are simplified steps to making tallow wax.

How to Make Tallow Wax

Step #1: Buy lard or chopped up animal frat form the grocery store or butcher.

Step #2: Put it in a pot and cover with water. Let boil.

Step #3: Ounce boiled you need to let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes depending on how much fat you are trying to boil down. You want everything to be as much liquid as possible.

Step #4: Strain the oil water solution to get out any hard pieces that will not boil down and pour into a bowl to cool.

Step #5: Once it is cool the wax will rise to the top and you can take it out and use it as you wish in any candles you might be making.

Most people love to melt the wax again, add food color, and then pour the new wax in old candle containers and add a new wick. You are good to go for cents on the dollar.

Soy Wax:

I don’t know if you have had any experience with Overstock.com but if not you have to try ordering something from them. They are one of the best places to check out for upholstered chairs. The prices are reasonable and they really give you a great description and pictures of the product you are looking at buying. The return policy is one of the best as well. I actually had an item that they said was a clearance item and when I received it, it was not the right shade of blue for a client’s home. I gave them a call and they allowed me to send it back and they even reimburse me for the shipping back to them. I have ordered approximately 15-20 upholstered chairs from them over the years and they are my number on place to go and find sets for new spaces that I am designing.

Target is a great place to check out as well. They do have great quality of upholstered rocking chairs. This has really only been the thing that I have ordered from them as far as furniture goes. It arrived quick and was exactly what I expected. When in doubt I always compare target and overstock.com to see if I am getting the best price. Most of the time 7 out of 10 times Overstock.com still has the best prices. One benefit that Target has is the fact that if you are unsure about and upholstered chair you are looking at, you can always go to see if they have it as your local Target store. This sometimes helps the creative juices flow with a visual right in front of you. One thing that is nice also is if you ever need to return anything you bought online you can do it in the store. This ease of accessibility is very nice to have, very convenient.

One of the things I have noticed about Sears throughout the years is that they carry a great line of upholstered club chairs. Sometimes it is a seasonal product for them but they have some of the best selections in colors, fabrics and textures. If you want a unique piece of furniture especially when it comes to an upholstered chair definitely check out sears. One of the things that Sears also has that may be a negative is price. I find it really hard to get a great price that I just can’t pass up. As far as upholstered chairs goes, when they do have them Target and Overstock tend to out price them. If they do that that piece of furniture that is unique you might just suck it up and pay for customization. Shipping can also be on the expensive side just keep your eyes out for a free shipping promotion.

Finally we have one of the most controversial furniture / home design stores on the planet. As far as upholstered chair shopping goes I think they are great. They always have a great collection great shipping terms and returns are very easy. Just like with Target you can go to a local Crate and Barrel and find exactly the same piece of furniture online and you can check out the quality there. You can even have furniture shipped to your local store if they do not have what you want on hand and then when they get it you can decide if you want to buy it or not. It is very that nice when they are willing to work with you when you are trying to design a relaxing space in your home. One of the best things that they have going for them is that they have one of the best varieties of upholstered chairs available as far as material fabric goes. They always carry upholstered dining chairs, upholstered rocking chairs, upholstered club chairs and upholstered arm chairs in all colors and fabrics. If you want a great selection they are the place for you.  The negative is that you get what you pay for so you are going to spend top dollar for the options and the constant availability of upholstered chairs.

Latex Pillow

One of the things that so many people have contacted us on is design ideas for these pillows and what you can use these pillows for in your home décor. Most people love the fact that they are such a great buy but they would like to have more options for incorporating them into your home. After about a week and consulting with an interior designer we were able to brain storm some ideas that you might want to take into consideration for your own home design.

Design Idea #1:

The first idea is to transform your cushions to latex pillows. Or in other words, a latex foam pillow instead of foam.  Now when we first had this idea we didn’t not realize that companies are already doing this as an option instead of a normal foam cushion for chairs. In any case you have the ability to get a latex foam rubber pillow and cut it to fit your existing furniture and replace your old cushions with new ones that will last three times the life of traditional foam.  A great benefit is that they feel good on your butt to. We actually tried doing this with the office cushions and after our first attempt we found that the latex can be difficult to cut. You have to have a very sharp blade and a sturdy amount of pressure. After we did the first one and everyone liked it, the entire office is  changing out their chair cushions and getting them re upholstered. A great way to save on material which we ended up doing is buying a pregnancy pillow that was made out of latex because it is bigger and we could get three to four cushions out of one.

Design Idea #2:

This kind of pillow works well as throw pillows. Most people do not think of these pillows as just a decorative pillow being that they are such a functional pillow but again if you are able to alter them and cover them in upholstery material of any color, this is such a great use for them. They always keep a plump shape unlike traditional cotton throw pillows that can sort of flatten out after a few uses. The good news is they will always look full and yet you can still use them while you watch TV or read a book.  This must be the most beneficial part to this latex pillows conversion. Just the fact that they look amazing and you can still have a functional pillow that will not die on you in a couple months to a year. You really do get the best of both worlds with foam latex pillows being used as a through pillow.

Design Idea #3

Finally we have a use for latex pillows that is really chopping up a new pillow. Many designers that we talk to do this when they are creating a custom bed, cushion, reading space or bean bag chair. They take latex foam bed pillows and they chop them up into little bits and use them as fill for any size of cushion that they want to be just like a giant latex pillow. Well I know the first thing I thought is that is extremely expensive and how do you chop the pillow into little bits. Well a secret is that they actually contact latex pillow manufactures and make a deal with them to take scraps. The one interior designer that I talked to has a good connection (which I’m still trying to get out of him) with a latex foam company that makes latex mattresses and latex pillows. He gets all their scraps and shavings to use as a latex fill. This is a great idea especially since I have yet to see latex fill that is just like what the latex pillows are made of. He does pay a pretty penny for this and if he needs the pieces smaller they will grind them down for him if her requests it. Talk to your closest latex manufacture and make some friends. They can provide you with latex fill that yeah will cost you about the same as latex pillows but the fill will last forever for any custom application.

These are the main applications that we have come across besides just using these pillows for all pillow applications. Each idea does require some work but with the right craft and attention to detail you can create the most relaxing environment that will last a lifetime.
