Another great design tool that is available to us is leather pillows. This type of pillow is the perfect thing that most rooms are lacking when you are trying to create a nice relaxing home environment. These pillows are able to give a room warmth and a cozy feel, similar to how a rocking chair brings in that same comfort level to a room. Leather pillows are great long lasting pillows that will work with all types of styles in your house. Weather they are faux leather of not, the visual look is clean and comfortable.
Color Tips
Leather pillows come in a wide range of colors and patterns. So many you can get lost in swatch upon swatch of colors you have to choose from. A simple easy first step is to pick a color that is an accent of the room or piece of furniture that you are placing the leather pillow on. I would not recommend trying to match any color exactly. This is never going to happen and the pillow will not stay the exact color for long with weather, temperatures, sun exposure and different leather that can come from different manufactures. For color inspiration look at things in your room like tablecloths, plants, paintings, chandeliers, center pieces or even small things like candles or candle holders to pull an accent color from. By doing this you free yourself so that you can match any style of room that you have. You also are tying the room aesthetically together by simply adding a similar color of leather pillow to the room.
Leather Pillow Sizes
Along with color the next important thing to think about is size of the leather pillow. This of course can either add to a room’s appearance or dominate a room’s appearance. Again it all depends on what look you are going for and what you are trying to create. One recommendation is to go with the combining of multiple size leather pillows together. This of course depends on the size of furniture you are putting pillows on as well as the style you are going for and what you can do and how many. A nice layout is to combine a set of three leather pillows together and have a large one maybe 20”x 20” then drop down to 18” x 18” and then either a 16” x 16” or a 14” x 14”. This adds a gradual visual appearance that is perfect for a couch sitting area or even a bed. With larger beds another good option would be to have a larger pillow in back like 30” x 30” (sometimes hard to find) or a 24” x 24” and have that larger leather accent pillow sit in the center of the bed and then get smaller leather pillows around it that tiers down on both sides creating a symmetric cozy bed of leather pillows. In any case these are options that I would think about when creating your relaxing environment with leather throw pillows.
Leather Pillow Shape
In the furniture store I work in I get this question lot. How many and what shapes do I go with? I always recommend to people with home leather pillows I personally like to stick to one shape. If you like the rectangle and square leather pillows this is what I would stick with for the entire room. On the other hand, if you like the round leather pillows than I would stick to a round shape for your accent pillows for the entire room. Pick a shape and keep it continuous throughout. This not only looks organized but also will help tie the entire room together visually. As far as amount goes again depends on the size of the piece of furniture you are going to be setting them on. I like to go with three leather pillows on each side for a larger couch or bed and that’s it. I never liked a piece of furniture that is packed with pillows and hard to sit on while you are battling a spot on the couch with leather pillows. I have also realized that some of the most impact that leather pillows have on a relaxing environment is when you have only two leather pillows on each end of the couch and that’s it. This is just a clean way to make an impact that is functional and visually pleasing.
Leather pillows are great tools to use in your home décor and I would highly recommend thinking about adding some to your home environment to create a great feel and relaxing harmony of your room. A new idea would to look into executive chairs and pair a leather pillow with a nice executive chair. They are fairly affordable and can do wonders for your room by doing this. If you need a pillow that is more angled toward functioning for your body I would recommend checking out a buckwheat pillow to help your body relax.
