Lets face it most people love to live outside. We spend thousands and thousands of dollars fixing up our outdoor spaces so we will be able to relax in them and enjoy the outdoor life. From outdoor heaters, to barbecues, to garden lighting, people spend thousands to make the outdoors more relaxing. The elements and harsh weather can totally take that away from us. Here you spend all this money and then the extremes of the elements make your patio unbearable to even walk by. Who wants to be overheated and uncomfortable in an area they are supposed to be relaxing in? Fortunately, for us there are many shading options available. The most popular being patio covers. These are more of a good solid quality permanent mounting device that sits on the exterior of your house over the patio area. Similar to wood patio covers or trellis covers. The benefits of a rolled material patio covers is that they can be retracted and can be replaced with ease if necessary. You can decide when you want a covered patio. They do not have to consistently be in view if you don’t want them to. You can roll them up and put them away for the winter if you would like. One of the most popular brands that has great quality is SunSetter. They are a must to check out if you are interested in this kind of outdoor relaxation. I know firsthand that they make a quality product.

Size Options and Instillation

When it comes to sizing remember that the sun moves as the day goes on. This will affect your patio cover design. The sun also drops so in the summer months the sun is higher in the sky and in the winter the sun is lower. It is very important that you get a large enough covered space to protect you throughout any hour of the day. You do not want to finally invest in something to protect you and then feel craps because you could have used a larger one. Then on the other hand you do not want something that will overwhelm your backyard and gobble up your outside environment either. Most people like the 10’-15’ extend off of their home.

As far as width and height is concerned that is up to the house you are installing on. Your installer is very experienced with this and will help you choose. Instillation is fairly quick with the professionals doing it. I would recommend having a professional do it just simply because it takes them no time to do. (that’s what I had done with mine) From start to finish installation was in less than an hour ready to use and relax under.

Materials and Features

Most of the patio covers are made from fabric, or polyester or some mix of both. This is far better than aluminum patio covers mainly because of sound when it rains. A good quality cover has a spray liner then material layer, then spray liner again which really helps with UV resistance and fade. A final waterproofing coat is used as well for any rain that the canopy may endure.

With so much work in the actual material you also can pick from a variety of colors and patterns to help you match with any of your backyard décor. One of the huge decisions is to get a manual or automatic patio cover. With my experience it is a better option to get an automatic one. You will not have to work just hit a button and its up and ready to use. The only negative is that you will need the installer to wire electrical. This may add time to your instillation depending on your house but is well worth the hassle free use of this product.

Patio covers are a great solution to making sure your relaxing environment is nice and cool. The reported degree difference under the patio cover is as much as 35 degrees cooler. This is huge to making sure you are as relaxed and your backyard is as enjoyable as possible. If a patio canopy is too expensive for your budget you can also take advantage of a pop up gazebo. These work similar and tend to be more affordable.
