What is a Task Chair Anyway?
One of the most confusing things that people tend to have with task chairs is the fact that they really do not understand what the differences are of these chairs from many others. Hundreds and hundreds of offices around the world use all kinds of chairs for all different purposes. Some chairs are designed for a specific purpose while others are just designed to be basics working chairs. That is what pretty much happens with task chairs. They are pretty much used for all sorts of functions and are more of a well-rounded chair. Nothing special nothing fancy. They tend to be those chairs that are always in the office because people use them but they are not valuable enough for people to steal them for their office.
Style and Design
Most of the time style and design are pretty limited with a task chair especially when it comes to upholstery fabric choices. They tend to be more contemporary and come in solid colors, again very basic nothing to special. The basics that you will get with these chairs is padded armrests (matching colors of course), a pneumatic seat, height adjustment, metal or plastic framing, 360 degrees of a swivel stand, heavy duty legs and footing, and foot grips not to scratch floors. Other than that the chairs are pretty much a basic layout for seating design, flat bottom and arched backrest. You can now find some of these chairs as a designed ergonomic task chair if you would like but they tend to be a bit more expensive. Those kind are known as armless task chairs.
Cost and Life of the Chair
One of the features that many find attractive about what an office task chair has to offer you is the fact that they tend to be very inexpensive. They are made with cheaper materials but at the same time they are heavy duty materials. By doing this they utilize the cheaper plastic and metals in the industry by use enough of them to makes sure that the task chair will not breakdown or fall apart. This means that costs are relatively low and then you get a long life out of these chairs that can take an extreme beating without falling apart. You get the best of both worlds.
Tips
There are only so many tips you can have when you are looking at purchasing a task chair basically because it is hard to go wrong. There are some tips that may help non the less.
Tip #1: When picking a chair just get a neutral color that will go with everything. These chairs do last very long and take abuse fairly well so you want the fabric of the seat and back to be able to match your office or home décor of any season or year. The main colors are navy blue, black, dark green , brown, and tan. These colors will match the trends and styles for years to come.
Tip #2: When shopping for these chairs you can really look at the cheapest task chair that you can get your hands on. For what many people use these chairs for you can just get the plain basic chair without having any quality issues. Purchasing one of these chairs for $25-$35 is probably your best bet. This price is not going to bankrupt you for the life that you will have the chair. Stick with the cheap one and it will work just find.
Tip #3: Smaller is better when it comes to task chairs. For what these chairs are used for you are not going to spend long hours sitting in them. They just need to be convenient and easily accessed. To do this you want to get a chair with a fairly small footprint so that it can fit in and around your computer desk set up, be pulled out to use and put back away just as fast. Smaller is better for these chairs.
Tip #4: Look for the new mesh task chairs. These are even more lightweight and last very long. They have a clean look to them like a custom chair would but they are extremely affordable. They really do match nicely with a glass computer desk as many tend to pair them with. If you want a chair that looks like you spent a bunch of money on it I would check out this kind.
Other than that that’s the basics when it comes to looking into task chairs. Many people take advantage of this chair’s functionality, cost and durability. You really cannot ask for more when you are looking for a cheap chair.
